The road goes on and on . . .and we do, too. First photo posted!

Well, I'm playing with photos and here is the one of us in Telluride last year. How can I get today's photo here--that is the question of the moment? Oh, where are all my wise techie-savvy friends when I need them??

They call this campground Trail In and so we trailed in shortly after noon and the rain trailed in after us all the way. A straight drive all the way up Interstate 5.

Escape velocity achieved! At mile 90 we spotted the first wild chicory on the roadside as we crossed the Contra Costa county line. Further along the highway there were bales of hay, neatly stacked. So now CalTrans is harvesting the hay along the freeway easements to ease the California budget crisis?

Countdown

The Nissan--also known locally and affectionately as the X-T--is fixed and ready to go. The refrigerator is plugged in to precool for loading tomorrow, and the FUnfinder is stocked with four months' worth of clothes, supplies, and enough food for us to circle the equator a couple of times. Tomorrow will be 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-Day 1 prior to the big Takeoff. Getting excited, even though we still haven't posted photos...

Well, instead of adding photos today, we cleaned and packed without an end in sight and the only vacation we took was to zoom off for some barbecued chicken at lunch. Overall, departure looks more hopeful. Now, on Monday morning, if only Nissan can get it right this time and install a functioning fuel gauge on their own recall! As we bump along the Dempster Highway, it will be crucial to know our gasoline usage since there are only two gas stations on the 480 mile road!

We're thrilled to see that we have six folllowers already! Thanks, folks! Now with this new laptop who knows what new revelations might come along, particularly with some spiffy photos. So behind in preparing that we might never really leave home. Stay to see if there is fact or fiction to this trip!

It was a dark and stormy February afternoon and we were both sick. Ray was feverish and asleep. I was feverish and awake. Daydreaming about summertime, I considered once again our ambition to "go to Alaska" as I paged listlessly through a travel catalog. My eye caught something about the Dempster Highway in the Yukon and suddenly I was inspired. And so began this journey.
